Hello! I’m Catriona. I love tea, rock n’ roll road trips, writing songs and sending things (to you?) in the mail. I started playing harmonica when I was 16 and it changed my life.
When I was a teenager I had a single dream: to drive from Thunder Bay to New Orleans, just like the movie Highway 61. Somehow I got my geography wrong….I left Ottawa after high school and ended up in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Although it would be years before I made it down south, luck was on my side. I ended up joining the indie-rock band Plumtree, and played bass guitar with them and got the best possible education in scrappy-sweetheart rock and roll touring across the second biggest country in the world.
I’ve played in punk bands with Japanese teenage boys and in an all-girl garage group called The Secret in Hiroshima. I’ve studied traditional instruments from Mali and Japan. I’ve put it all together (or as close as I could get it), and am excited to play a show for you in your town (in a local watering hole?, in your living room?). I play some heavy blues and some light pop. Lots of wordplay…..if you like that sort of thing…. and instrumentals, if you don’t. I hope to make you laugh and cry (in the best possible way).
Let’s talk about the harmonica, and how it can make you feel like Mick Jagger (even if you have none of his moves)…. Or I can tell you about the time I stayed at a place that had a wild bear in the backyard swimming pool, or the time I was a special guest on The Price is Right, or the time I had dinner with a murder suspect in Dauphin Manitoba (but please don’t print that one….)
Thanks for writing nice notes, coming to shows, buying shirts & songs….it means a lot to me, just like you do!
